The Coronagraphic German and US Parker Solar Probe Survey

The Institute for Astrophysics of the Georg-August University of Göttingen contributes to NASA's Parker Solar Probe (PSP) mission with the Coronagraphic German and US Parker Solar Probe Survey (CGAUSS) project led by Dr. Volker Bothmer. The project is funded through resources of the BMWK by the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt, DLR).

The CGAUSS project objectives are:

  • Testing the effect of dust-particle impacts on the WISPR camera.
  • Modeling the plasma and dust distributions within the PSP orbit.
  • Reconstructing coronal structures, the solar wind, and Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs).
  • Supporting the WISPR "Mission Operations", data processing and analysis.
  • Supplying a European WISPR data archive.
